You have invested a lot of time & hard work worth days, weeks or even months to plan and develop your website. I believe you’ve definitely put your best efforts to make everything work flawlessly. And now, nothing can be more exciting than that launching the website and let it catch attention from people worldwide.

But what if we have missed something important? A celebration will fade with stress and hectic day. Remedy? Use a checklist which will never let you miss those important things. It will ensure you or your client to have a pleasant and peaceful experience on launching day.

So being a web developer, we’re presenting with 10 checklists which you must check before the launching of your website. It’s your list so don’t get lazy to customize it as per your needs. Everyone has its own workflow; doing so will increase your productivity.

  1. Is Content ok?
  2. Logo & Links are there?
  3. Have License?
  4. Is Design perfect?
  5. Is functionality working fine?
  6. Are WordPress Options updated?
  7. No Useless File?

1. Is Content ok?

Check if there are all dummy content & the “Lorem Ipsum” text removed and actual content are there with free from any grammar & spelling error. Double check the official contact information of company/person shown on the website.

2. Logo & Links are there?

Site logo must target home page only and site favicon has to be placed. Ensure all the internal, as well as external links, are resolving to correct target and external links are opening in new tab or window.

3. Have License?

You have valid licenses or rights to use the images, themes, plugins, trademarks and other resources consumed on the website before the launch.

4. Is Design perfect?

Give a few minutes to final preview of the site. Recheck if they are loading fine in different browsers and variety of phones along with maintaining their responsive design if it’s applicable.

5. Is functionality working fine?

You should also check if functionalities within the website are working alright. It includes any form submission, sufficient performance and any newsletter/subscriber list implemented among others.

6. Are WordPress Options updated?

If you are using WordPress as the platform for your website then must check two things. First is, have you updated Email Address in Settings > General to an official email address?
Second, is “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” checkbox has been unchecked in Settings > Reading menu?

7. No Useless File?

Have a look at files you had created for the project, whose you are going to upload and have you deleted any unwanted file/resource from there. Also check there is no confidential file present by mistake like license details, with any key that shouldn’t be there in production.

8. Has Information Ready?

No matter either you’re working on your own or for any client, have you created a document consisting possibly needed information? This includes login credentials for the site or related accounts like MailChimp, information related to paid license along with their renewal dates etc. Of course, you need to handle this information securely.

9. Is Updated?

Ensure that all the core files, plugins and theme used, have their latest version installed.

10. Has Backup?

The 10th check, do must before you launch website is that do you have the latest backup of everything including database and files after all the checklists you have passed, in case anything goes wrong in production?

These are the 10 general checkups one must do before he/ she launches the website. We also encourage you to extend the list as per your convenience. And rather skipping any point, move it into another low priority secondary checklist if it’s less important to you. Just skipping is not a good idea.
